DiveEmAll Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 23, 2026
DiveEmAll is a game for logging the marine life you see. This page explains what we collect, why, and how to remove it.
What we collect
- Account: your email address and sign-in provider (Apple, Google or email), plus the display name, avatar, certification level, favorites and gear you choose to add.
- Sightings: the photos you upload, the species, the dive site you pick, the date, and your camera model if the photo includes it. We do not read your location from the photo.
- Dive logs: if you import a dive file (for example from Garmin), the dive's start time, length, depth and lowest water temperature. The file itself and any GPS track in it are not kept.
- Activity: your points, rank and achievements, which we compute from your sightings.
- Purchases: if you subscribe to a paid plan, Apple takes the payment and gives our server a signed receipt: which plan, when it ends or renews, and a purchase number tied to your account. We never see your card or your Apple ID details.
- Friends and community: who you have friended or asked, the kudos (hearts) you give and receive on public sightings, and the divers you block and photos you report.
- Notifications and crashes: if you turn notifications on, a push token that lets Apple's notification service reach your phone. If the app crashes, a crash report (what the app was doing, your phone model and iOS version) goes to Google Crashlytics; it is not linked to your account.
How it is used
- Species identification. When you identify a photo, it is sent through our server to Anthropic's Claude AI, which returns a species suggestion. Our suggestions can be wrong: check them against what you saw, and don't rely on them for safety decisions such as touching, handling or eating an animal. It is not used to identify people.
- Plans. We use the receipt only to switch your plan on and off, and keep the record with your account until you delete it.
- Rankings and community pages. Your points appear on the Top Divers board and your finds count toward the Top Fish and Top Dive Spots boards.
- Featured finds. Each week the Home screen can feature one public sighting, with its photo, species, dive site and your display name, to every diver. Only sightings set to Everyone, from a profile set to Everyone, are chosen. Set it to Friends or Only me, or delete it, and it is taken down.
- Notifications. If you allow them, we send friend requests, new friends, kudos milestones on your finds and a weekly highlight. Choose which in Profile, then Notifications, or turn them off in iOS Settings.
- Ocean research. We intend to share sightings (species, dive site, date) with public biodiversity databases so they can help ocean research. Shared records contain no names, emails or photos. Species names in them start as our AI's suggestion and are then kept or corrected by the diver; we do not have experts verify them, and they may be wrong.
You decide who sees what
- Profile: Everyone, Friends only, or Only me. If it is not Everyone, you appear as "Anonymous diver" on the global rankings. Whoever may see your profile sees your counts (creatures, dive sites, countries) and the achievements you have earned, but not which sites or species those counts come from.
- Each sighting: Everyone, Friends, or Only me. Only photos set to Everyone can appear on public species and dive site pages and in the Community feed, with your display name. Aquarium and zoo sightings are shared by the same setting as any other, and do not score.
Where it is stored
Your data is stored with Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging for notifications and Crashlytics for crash reports). Payments are handled by Apple under its own terms. Photos sent for identification are processed by Anthropic under its API terms.
Deleting your data
In the app, open Profile, then Account, and choose Download my data for a copy of what we hold, or Delete account to remove it. Deleting removes your profile, sightings, photos, dive logs, friendships, push tokens, plan record and sign-in. It does not cancel a subscription: cancel that in your iPhone's Settings under Subscriptions. Points you earned are taken off the rankings. Records already shared in anonymous form with research databases cannot be pulled back.
Reporting
You can report a community photo from the Community feed, or from a species or dive site page. We review reports and remove photos that don't belong.
Children
DiveEmAll is not directed at children under 13.
